Tamara Broderick and Caroline Uhler are honored for their outstanding research and professional contributions
Tamara Broderick and Caroline Uhler were elected to the Institute of Mathematical Statistics's (IMS) Fellowship for their outstanding research and professional contributions. They will both be honored among the new IMS Fellows at the IMS Presidential Address and Awards Ceremony at the Bernoulli-IMS 11th World Congress in Probability and Statistics on August 12-16, 2024 in Bochum, Germany.
Tamara Broderick is a faculty member in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS); she is also a member of the MIT Laboratory for Information and Decision Systems (LIDS), the MIT Statistics and Data Science Center, and the Institute for Data, Systems, and Society (IDSS). Broderick’s research focuses on providing fast and reliable quantification of both uncertainty and robustness in complex data analysis procedures. Together with her team and collaborators, she provides data analysis tools in areas ranging from genetics to economics to assistive technology.
Caroline Uhler is a faculty in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS); she is also a member of the MIT Laboratory for Information and Decision Systems (LIDS); and the Institute for Data, Systems, and Society (IDSS). She is a core institute member of the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, where she directs the Eric and Wendy Schmidt Center. Her research lies at the intersection of machine learning, statistics, and genomics, with a particular focus on causal inference, representation learning, and gene regulation.
Established in 1935, the Institute of Mathematical Statistics is a member organization that fosters the development and dissemination of the theory and applications of statistics and probability. The IMS has over 4,700 active members throughout the world.
The Bernoulli-IMS World Congresses in Probability and Statistics are held every four years by the Bernoulli Society and the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, the world’s leading scientiï¬c societies in the area of Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics. Previous World Congresses have been held in Tashkent (1986), Uppsala (1990), Chapel Hill (1994), Vienna (1996), Guanajuato (2000), Barcelona (2004), Singapore (2008), Istanbul (2012), Toronto (2016) and Seoul (2020).
